Leviathan Gold review: aim, fire and count your shots

No reels, no spin button. Leviathan Gold puts a cannon at the bottom of a sunken city and asks what you want to shoot, and with what. Here is the reef, the weapons, and the budget math that matters.

Leviathan Gold is a fish shooting game from Nocturn Play: sea creatures swim across a drowned city, you fire a cannon at them, and every creature you catch pays its multiplier times your bet per shot, up to 2,000× the bet on a single impact.

Short answer: A well-organised fish shooter with a clear paytable (2× minnows up to 50× mantas, chests up to 188×), three weapons at 1, 5 and 15 bets, two chain-reaction specials, and two bosses worth 80× to 300× on a golden wheel. No bonus buy. Verdict: the most hands-on game in this review set, and the one where your stake per shot decides how long a session lasts.

What's swimming on the reef

Every creature carries a fixed multiplier. Bigger ones pay more and take more luck to catch. Nocturn Play is direct about the balance: no creature pays better than another on average, so there is no secret fish to farm.

The three weapons, and when each earns its price

Cannon, 1 bet. One shot, one creature. Rounds bounce off the screen edges until they hit, and a round that never hits anything is given back. This is your default, and the right tool for single big targets like the shark.

Laser, 5 bets. A beam through everything in its path, up to twenty creatures. It shines during a fish tide, when a whole school crosses in formation every few minutes. Fire it into an empty patch and the game charges less than five bets if what it hits is worth less. Not a disaster, just a waste.

Bomb, 15 bets. Tap a creature and the blast catches everything around it, up to thirty. Refunded if nothing is in range, and cheaper when the catch is worth less than the price. Use it on dense clusters only.

Raising your bet per shot also makes the cannon bigger on screen. Cosmetic, but a nice touch.

The specials and the bosses

The Thunder Jelly sends chain lightning to up to five nearby creatures and pays for them too. The Blast Pearl explodes and takes up to eight around it. Neither can pull a boss or another special into the catch, so their value depends on how crowded the water is when they swim through. The armoured angler and octopus can turn a catch into a SUPER ×5: 125× for the angler, 150× for the octopus.

Then, after a warning, a boss arrives. The Golden Dragon and the Kraken take turns. Catch one and a golden wheel sets its value. You don't have to engage. If your balance is low, keep shooting small fish and let it pass; if it escapes, you've lost only the shots you fired. LOCK will steer every shot at the most valuable creature on screen, which during a boss visit is the boss.

Budgeting a session on Sweep Coins

This is the section most fish game reviews skip, and it's the one that matters. You fire many times a minute. The size of any single win matters less than your bet per shot.

Nocturn Play's guide suggests dividing your session budget by a few hundred. Worked through on 30.00 SC:

AUTO fires non-stop and drains a balance quickly; if you use it, pair it with LOCK so the shots at least aim somewhere useful. On Gold Coins the same logic applies, just with bigger numbers and less at stake, which makes GC the right place to learn the rhythm of tides and bosses.

Max win and how the coins behave

A single impact pays up to 2,000× the bet per shot, according to the game page. At 0.10 SC per shot that ceiling is 200 SC. Each session runs in one coin, picked on the selector at the top of the screen, and a win lands in the coin the shot was fired with. Bear in mind that in a shooter, your stake leaves the balance shot by shot, so the Sweep Coin side can move quickly even when nothing big happens. Whether SC can be redeemed, and how, is set by each casino's rules; our guide to redeeming Sweep Coins walks through the usual steps.

Who should play it

Players who find slots too passive. Arcade fans. Anyone who enjoys deciding when to spend on a laser and whether to chase a boss. On a phone it plays in landscape only and asks you to rotate if you hold it upright, which is fair for a game that needs the full width of the reef. If you'd rather watch than aim, it isn't for you.
